Sample Edits & Discovery Calls

Wondering if I’m the right editor for your project? I offer free sample edits and complimentary 30-minute discovery calls so you can experience my editing style and ask questions before making any commitments.

Sample Edit

What is it

A sample edit is a short, complimentary edit of up to 3,000 words from your manuscript. I’ll use Microsoft Word’s Track Changes feature to show you exactly how I would approach editing your work—pointing out areas to strengthen, smoothing sentences for clarity, and leaving comments with suggestions. Think of it as a test run of the editing process, so you can see what it’s like to work together before investing in a full edit.

What it Includes

  • A sample edit (up to 3,000 words): I’ll mark up your manuscript in Microsoft Word using Track Changes.
  • An editorial letter: Along with the in-text edits, you’ll receive a short summary of my feedback, highlighting your strengths and suggesting next steps.
  • Personalized recommendation: I’ll let you know which editorial service—developmental editing, copyediting, or proofreading—would benefit your manuscript most.

How It Works

  1. Submit your excerpt (up to 3,000 words, from anywhere in your manuscript).
  2. I’ll review your work and get in touch with an estimated turnaround time. Normally, I’ll return your edited excerpt + editorial letter within 5 business days.
  3. We’ll discuss your goals and next steps—either by email or during the discovery call, if you’d prefer to chat.

DIscovery Call

A discovery call is a short, 30-minute video call which gives you the opportunity to meet me and chat about your project, your goals, and any concerns you might have. It can be scheduled with a sample edit or independently.
